The basic principle of the Accounting Degree Curriculum is to produce a steady supply of accounting graduates who possess the required attitudes, ethics, and professional abilities to advance the frontiers of accounting practice both locally and worldwide.
After completing the B.Sc. degree program in Accounting, graduates receive the requisite exemptions from Professional Accounting authorities in Nigeria and abroad, such as, The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) and Association of Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA).

Aim
The Department of Accounting’s primary goals are to develop high-level accounting personnel, to push the boundaries of accounting knowledge through research and publication, and to improve the quality of professional accounting in Nigeria and elsewhere. Thus, the department’s programme is established with the following goals:
- To broaden the scope of accounting application by fostering interest in the subject and providing necessary leadership in research and experimentation in all fields of accounting.
- The requirement for a broad foundation in many areas of economics, finance, and management so that the accountant will regard himself as a part of the organizational team whose cooperation is necessary to achieve predetermined organizational goals.
- Promoting interactions between employees and students and accounting professionals in order to instill in them the values, moral principles, and professional competence that they need
Employment Skills
Accounting professionals can find a variety of opportunities in Nigeria, as well as in many other countries. However, due to the fierce competition in the labor market, a quality accounting degree, while important, may not be sufficient to secure employment. Employers are increasingly searching for candidates who can demonstrate a diverse set of employable skills, including effective communication, teamwork, organizational and managerial abilities, critical thinking, leadership, technology proficiency, and self-management. The courses in this program are intended to foster and strengthen the acquisition of these skills among program alumni.
B.sc Acounting emphasizes a wide range of 21st century abilities, this include amongst others, creativity, media literacy, information literacy, adaptability, empathy, problem-solving, teamwork, global awareness, innovation, and critical thinking.
- Candidates must have obtained at least five credits in the following subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Economics, and two more topics related to social science at SSCE, GCE, NECO, NABTEB, or its equivalents.
- The candidate must possess at least one of the following qualifications in order to be admitted to the 200 level. A-level Credit in Economics, Mathematics, and any other social sciences subject
- OND in Accounting or Financial Studies or Business Studies of approved Polytechnic or Colleges of Technology with at least Upper Credit,
- ICAN ATSWA (Final Level)
- Foundation pass of recognized professional bodies such as ICAN, ACCA, CIMA, CIBN, CIA, CIS and
- Diploma certificates from any other approved programmes from the Administration & Management Sciences (Particularly Accounting, Business Administration, Economics and Banking & Finance) of any recognised University (Lower Credit may be considered.
The goals of the learning objectives and outcomes are to give students the ability to think critically, communicate effectively, work in a team, understand technology, be ethical and socially responsible, and use technology.
After completing this program successfully, the student will be qualified to:
- Describe the fundamental ideas and methods of key accounting subjects, such as managerial accounting, taxation, auditing, financial accounting and reporting, and accounting information systems.
- Analyze and prepare financial statements in accordance with IPSAS and IFRS guidelines as well as statements from the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria.
iii. Prepare budgets, assess management control systems, and offer assistance in making cost-management and other managerial decisions.
- Determine the level of risk, analyze accounting processes, and suggest suitable internal controls.
- Organize data, boost productivity, and assist in management decision-making by using accounting software.
- Compile basic tax returns; analyze and explain how fundamental tax laws affect individuals, corporations, and partnerships.
vii. Compile a report on the performance, financial situation, and managerial efficacy. Conduct fundamental assessments of financial systems and statements.
viii. Exhibit competencies pertinent to the accounting field, such as proficient oral and written communication and teamwork skills.

For a B.Sc. Accounting degree to be awarded, 132 credit units are required. When a student satisfies the requirements, they will be eligible to get a degree. A minimum of fifteen credit units must be taken each semester. In order to establish the class of degree to be conferred, a student’s cumulative grade point average (CGPA) must be calculated. This involves taking into account all of the course grades, whether required or elective, and whether the student passed or failed. Grades received in each and every attempt at a course, even if a student retakes it more than once before passing it or substitutes a different course for an unsuccessful optional course, will be taken into account when calculating the GPA.
