About The Program

The B.Sc. (Hons.) Biology programme was introduced in the 2022 session under Biology Department. The programme provides basic training to the award of B.Sc. Honours in Biology and caters for the needs of MBBS, and BMLS students. Areas such as Ecology, Behaviour, morphology. taxonomy, physiology, and Genetics are explored with a view to train adequate manpower to cater for current needs of the community Science Education, Environmental protection, Medical and paramedical sector and food production.

The program is designed to produce intellectuals and professionals equipped with sufficient and advanced knowledge of fundamentals of living organisms coupled with research capabilities to take and solve problems independently. The under lying philosophy of the programme is to produce graduates with a sound knowledge of living things and their adaptations to the environment. The curriculum is structured to provide functional broad-based training in biological Sciences

 

The objective of the Department, is to become a globally recognized department and institution that provides excellent undergraduate and graduate biology. Our goal is to train students to become leaders and innovators in by offering them a top-notch and easily accessible education.

Employment Skills

Holders of B.Sc. Biology could take up employment in various sectors of Agriculture Environment development. They could take employment as researchers and teachers in Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges of Education and Research Institutes, Federal and State ministries of Education. They could also be employed as analyst in both administrative and planning officers in the different ministries. Biology graduates can also be absorbed in Food Industries, Hospitals, Game reserves and National Parks, Military and Para-military organizations etc.

4-year degree programme
The entry requirements shall be, at least, credit in five subjects including English language and Mathematics as the core subjects, with credits in three other relevant science subjects, preferably Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Agricultural science and Chemistry at the Senior Secondary Certificate (SSC) or its equivalent may be considered with, at least, a credit in Physics. In addition, an acceptable pass in the University Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) into 100-level is required. Direct entry mode
Five SSC (or equivalent) credit passes in relevant subjects, two of which are at the Advanced Level.

  5. Introducing students to worldwide accounting standards and procedures in order to get them ready for jobs around the world.
  6. Providing opportunities for students to do biological research, advancing the discipline both academically and professionally.
  7. Possibilities for networking events, workshops, and internships to further students’ professional growth and industry relationships.
  8. Emphasize collaborative learning, cooperation, and communication skills for the accounting profession.

Expected duration for Direct Entry (DE) candidates with two A level passes (graded A-E) at the Advanced Level or its equivalent, in relevant subjects (Biology, Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics) may undertake the three-year degree programme beginning from 200- level.

Students are required to complete a minimum of 120 units for graduation, 60 of which must come from the relevant option areas in Biology.
